Safety while living and
working on the farm and ranches is vitally important.
Therefore, one of the priorities for Missouri's Cattlemen
Foundation is to educate children on staying safe on the farm.
Junior high and high
school students have the opportunity to participate in a fun day
outside of the classroom to learn about safety on the farm and
how to react in serious situations. The Farm Safety
College is not only sponsored by MCF but also Mizzou Collegiate
CattleWomen.
Students from grades seven
through ten participate in seven different stations. These
stations can include ATV, Automobile, Fire, First Aid, Household
Hazardous Waste, Large Animal Handling, Lawn and Garden
Equipment, Electricity, Farm Chemicals and Firearms. A
rotation of events each year will keep the program fresh
and inviting.
Each station provides
hands-on experience teaches students how to prevent accidents
and how to respond in the event of an accident. After
every station has been completed, a post-test is administered to
evaluate how much the students learned from the activities.
Cash prizes are awarded for the highest scores.
Registration for the event
is $2 per student. This fee includes a T-shirt, hamburger
lunch and take-home materials for students and teachers.
