A beautiful fall day
greeted riders at the scenic Honey Creek Conservation Area
near Fillmore. Situated along the Missouri River bluffs,
the property features 1,448 acres
of rich, fertile crop and grass land, forest, diverse
wildlife and picturesque terrain. Part of the Platte
Purchase, and bordering about one half mile of the Nodaway
River, the Lewis & Clark Expedition passed two miles south
of the area in 1804.
The annual Charity
Weekend tried a new one-day format on Saturday, September 22
– the same abundant food and fun all in one day. During
their stay, riders enjoyed the hospitality of the St. Joe
Stockyards and Andrew County Cattlemen. The Stockyards
provided lunch and water to the riders and offered their
facilities to stable horses overnight. The ride was
coordinated by local Cattlemen Gerald and Lana Lyle and
Shane Deering; while Daniel Brewer and Joe Lyle grilled and
served the hamburgers to hungry riders.
In a separate event that evening the MCF co-hosted a dinner
and dance with the St. Joe American Legion Post. The same
great steaks and same talented band that are a tradition at
the Cattlemen’s Round Up each March were featured. Guests
enjoyed fellowship, a delicious meal then danced the night
away to the Clement Bros. Band.
